Why do we always say "I won't do that till pigs fly" or "Not until the fat lady sings?" I mean what is with us and fat things?

I think making fun of fat people is just a way that semi-fat people like to deal with their insecurity. And skinny people like making fun of fat people just for the fun of it. Yeah, fat's just a defense mechanism in a way isn't it...hmm...
