Full Version: What do you think about genetic modification
What do you think about genetic modification? is it right or an evil practice?
personally im all for it. I mean honestly, making humans better than any thing else on the planet? making creatures to help us with every day life? i say go for it!
Well, like all science, this has a good side and a bad side.
Good side: no disease, super humans, super smart people
Bad side: no disease, super humans, super smart people. In other words, people need to die (overcrowding of Earth), sports would suck cause everyone would be super strong, Super smart (what happens to those who are now smart, are they dumb?). Unstable smart and super strong peeps are bad. What about horrible birth defects??

Ah i was wonder ing if some one was going to say that
any way the sports thing is true but you don nessicaraly "have" to be human... and you dont have to participate it would be quite exciteing to live as your dream creature, aslong as it is in realistic boundries anything goesCrackle crackle Grin
There is also the Helper thing. i think it is a good idea a pet for every purpose. but we are talking about extremes right now and we could just heal the wounded and cure the sick.

I don't really agree with genetic modification unless it's to get rid of a genetic disease... but just changing the genes is a whole other story.

Actually, this is directly related to that movie. I saw it, a good sci-fi Orwellian type (I mean, kinda genre) film. Was that the one with the future world with the DNA identification?

That is wrong and should not be done, that is one reason why genetic modification is controvertial, that is just trying to get superiority and not benefits for humanity

I agree... If you got Hucrocs and Huears and like that you're going to have alot of problems... Like food and other resources and we'd have twenty million new spiecies.

Whatever you do, there will still be those who are smart, those who are stupid, and those in the middle. People will always be people, just on a higher/lower level. This is both physically and mentally. Yes, people could mutate, but there are already mutants. CNN did a story on them a few weeks ago. Super high lung capacity, super brains, can lower body temp to 80 degrees, this is all super human! You guys just have higher expectations that what nature can do. Nature is not Hollywood.

Sorry. I was just pointing out the obvious (which is bad, i know). Anyway, human gene modifiication will probably be for the better, but it could have serious negative side affects. Like extra hair or body parts in weird places *shudder*
if you are stupid and do it wrong but i am also talking about new biological appliances. imean wouldent be more efficiant to have bio luminecent creatures tht provided light for you when a certain nerv was stimulated?

We already interfere too much with the balance of nature...I see no reason to worsen it by creating new species (which would likely crowd out whatever existed wherever we put them, or alternately get crowded out if they weren't as good at obtaining needed resources as local species).
humans haven't been too good in being nice to nature...
besides, we would only seek what we deem the BEST qualities... and some people would manipulate creatures for fun...
here's a question for you: Blitzkreig, what would you do if you could control DNA? would it be for benefit? recreation? something you think is cool? would it be ethical?

It would be efficcient and cool (and compleaty unethical lol) but all the same it would still be useful

Well anyway, about genetic modification, it would get out of control and as someone said before, the people have to die. Not to mention the people who would create superhumans to take over the world...
like our cloning of brutes in RA2 Kray...
but just think... if an army of supermen tried to take over the world we would just use the same techneque to create our own justice league or somthin' to fight them.

We already have done genetic modification.. it hasn't really done any harm yet.. but I do agree with The_Nightshift on the point about we already tangled enough with it, and that we should just let nature take it's path.
If you were born a certain way, thats how you are supposed to be. I think the way things are right now are fine. I'm not really against it or with it. but it would be cool to see a dog light your path at night while your taking him/her for a walk.

Under those circumstances, I would still believe the many would triumph over the few eventually...whether it be pre-emptive strikes, counter-attacks, or rebellions after said modifed persons are installed as leaders...
Very true Nightshift. But I personally believe that genetic modification would pave the way for some ferocious warfare in some places...I bet Kim Jong Il would be the first to pursue that kind of technology!
