Full Version: American Idiot!

It's safe to say that Green Day is one of the most influential bands of the 90's and 00's... they started the pop-punk phenomenon with Dookie, and it's impossible to live in today's world and not know "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)." Their last album, Warning, was released in 2000, and for a while I thought they'd broken up... but they're back. American Idiot was released yesterday, and it rocks. It's like a new Abbey Road. I haven't finished listening to it yet, but what I've heard blew me away. The catchy, punk-rock title track leads into a nine-minute long epic in five movements called "Jesus of Suburbia" - which is incredible - think older Green Day meets "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. The whole album is, as the trio described it, a "punk-rock opera." There are three characters that I can remember mentioned in the CD (I'm sure there are more): the Jesus of Suburbia, St. Jimmy, and Whatsername.

Anyway... Green Day is a great band, and they're just getting better and better. Hardcore punks might think this album is "pop," but it's really more progressive rock meets punk - think Coheed & Cambria with real-world lyrics and minus the helium voice.

Anyone else get this album, or even just hear the single, which came out a couple months ago? Thoughts on the music?

Please do not turn this discussion into a political slugfest. Anyone who brings this off topic into "Bush Vs. Kerry Land" will be personally warned by me. Yes, politics are a part of this album - but that's what we have the "George Bush" and "John Kerry" threads in Controversial Topics.

I would say I love the song, but [Moril's brother] started singing it in Forensics......

>_< = My head after [Moril's brother]'s almost singing/poetry of some song from that album....

Don't insult [Moril's brother]'s singing; a million "imaginary bucks" says it's 180x better than yours... tongue.gif

He's actually really good most of the time, and I'd like to think I am too; but both of us kinda don't do well singing in school settings except in musicals and stuff. That's what I think, anyway. [Moril's brother], if you're reading this, get mad at Sharkface.

He actually kinda hates me now (he hangs out with punks, rocks, crackers, emo kids, etc.).

His singing is only like 2x better than mine. I just can't hit high notes (I'm a big guy, so I can't hit anything high).
Nirvana
Just cause your big... doesn't mean you can't hit high notes... anyone can streach there voice... of course with training...
Moril
Yeah, look at the guy in Coheed and Cambria - he's not the thinnest guy ever, but just listen to "A Favor House Atlantic" and you'll understand my point.
